Beginner's Day — Wildthing Flyfishing

The aim of our beginner's day is not only for you to have a great time, but to give you the necessary training to go out and start fishing on your own. Even if you've never touched a rod before, you'll have the skills and knowledge by the end of the day that you'll be able to catapult yourself into this new hobby!

Our expert guides  years of experience behind them. They have hundreds of little tips and tricks up their sleeves to ensure that you have a great day.

One of the best aspects of flyfishing is being in the wonderful outdoors. While you may be a beginner, we definitely don't skimp in this area. Our beginners' days are held at a secluded trout lake located in the Avon valley. With 55 acres of unspoilt woodland, it is one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots to flyfish in the country, and a wonderful place to start you on your fishing career!

When you book you will be sent an introductory package by email. This contains all the information that you will need to know about the day and things that you could do before hand to maximse your experience. It is personalised for you, or if you're booking for someone else, it can be personalised for them. What Do I Need to bring on the day?

There are no requirements that you bring anything as all tackle will be supplied. However we recommend that you bring your own hat and sunglasses (polarised if possible). Don't worry if you don't have either of these as we can supply them.  Depending on the weather and time of the year, suncream can also be a good idea.

What Do i need to wear?

Suitable outdoor clothes depending on the weather which may include waterproofs. Avoid any bright colours. Natural colour will help you to blend it with your surroundings.. Outdoor footwear, such as grippy trainers or walking boots are usually sufficient, but wellies may be a good idea if wet.

Can i bring my own gear?

Of course! In fact we suggest that you do bring your own gear if you have any. This is so that our guides can make sure that your gear is appropriate and they can advise you on any additions. Also, you will then be learning to fish with the equipment that you will use when you go out and fish on your own.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We hate to call off any day so the chances are that the day will go ahead. Just make sure that you bring suitable clothing and footwear for it! In the event that the weather is too bad for us to fish, then we will email you the night before to notify you and you will get a choice of alternative dates.

Is there an age requirement?

There is no age requirement or limit to our courses, however we do ask that anyone under 16 years old brings a responsible adult who may or may not be enrolled on the course. Note that if they are not enrolled on the course, they will not be catered for.

Will I catch a fish?!

We hope so! The lake is specifically chosen to make catching a fish highly likely. However, as always with flyfishing, you can never guarantee a catch. That's just fishing!

Can I take home my catches?

Definitely!

CAN I BRING A GUEST?

You are most welcome to bring a guest. Although please contact us after booking so that we can sort out catering arrangements for them.

CAN I CHANGE DATES AFTER I'VE BOOKED?

We allow you to change dates up until 10 days before the original date. If you wish to then you should email gonefishing@wildthingflyfishing.co.uk so that we can find another date that will suit you.

WILL LUNCH CATER FOR MY DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?

We will do our best to accommodate most dietary requirements but please advise us if you have any special requirements at the time of booking.
